I have to give my sister, Meghan, all the credit for making these. She found the recipe, she made the cookies, and she had the patience to ice every single one of them beautifully. And let me tell you, they were a huge hit at the Birthday Dinner. These cookies are exactly like the Black and Whites you would find in a bakery - cakey rather than chewy, and enough flavor in the delicious icing to actually taste the chocolate.

I always think of the show Seinfeld when I see black & white cookies. They are sooo yummy.
I have ALWAYS wanted to try making these and just never gotten around to them. They look great!
I do have one comment to make on the cookies...the chocolate icing became quite thick during the icing process, (as you can see in the pictures) so I kept stirring in hot water every few minutes to make it smooth again. I also didn't need to add the extra cocoa as Smitten suggests.
